Many young people of the mid-80s and late 80s generation are on the list of candidates for the title of professor and associate professor in 2021, which is a good sign as the opportunity for professors and associate professors to continue contributing after being recognized will be longer.

Professor candidate born in 1984

The youngest candidate for the title of professor is Mr. Tran Xuan Bach, born in 1984, lecturer at the Institute of Preventive Medicine Training, Hanoi Medical University. Mr. Tran Xuan Bach successfully defended his doctoral thesis with distinction at the University of Alberta (Canada) in 2011 and was awarded the title of associate professor in 2016 in Vietnam, at the age of 32. He was the youngest associate professor in Vietnam at that time.

Three years ago, Mr. Tran Xuan Bach was appointed as an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University, USA. He was also a visiting associate professor at Griffith University (Australia) in 2018 and has lectured at many foreign universities.

On the Johns Hopkins University website, adjunct professor Tran Xuan Bach is described as having extensive experience in global health and development issues. His research focuses on the cost and effectiveness of health interventions, applications of artificial intelligence in medicine, behavioral medicine and mental health, HIV/AIDS prevention, etc.

Mr. Bach has had more than ten other research projects after being recognized as an associate professor, up to now. He has 48 articles published in prestigious international scientific journals as the main author, after being recognized as an associate professor. In 2017, Tran Xuan Bach was awarded the Early Career Award by the University of Alberta (Canada). In 2018, he was elected to the Executive Council of the Global Young Scientists Academy, part of the German National Academy.

Talking about what he has been pursuing, Tran Xuan Bach said he always works with love and passion, not just out of duty.

As a young man who has been successful in scientific research, Tran Xuan Bach is also an inspiration to many young people when he presides over the organization of global forums of young Vietnamese intellectuals to spread the spirit of youth, connect young Vietnamese intellectuals with other countries, build expert and consulting mechanisms so that young intellectuals have the opportunity to participate, contribute opinions and criticize issues in their research fields. He also builds many research programs with the participation of young scientists...

Associate professor candidate born in 1988

Le Thanh Long, a lecturer at the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), is another young person who became a candidate for the title of associate professor this year at the age of 34 (born in 1988). Le Thanh Long defended his doctoral thesis at National Central University, NCU (Taiwan) and has worked at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Technology since the beginning of 2017.

Long is the main author and co-author of 39 scientific articles published in prestigious international journals, domestic journals, and international and domestic conference proceedings. Currently, Le Thanh Long pursues the research direction of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

Le Thanh Long shared: "Looking back at the time from when I was a student to when I became a lecturer like today, it was a long and difficult process for me, especially when I decided to pursue an academic path - scientific research and become a knowledge transmitter".

According to Le Thanh Long, for a person doing scientific research, the most common difficulty is probably the times when practice and research fail or are not as expected.

"That sometimes makes me discouraged and want to give up. However, because of my strong passion for scientific research and my determination to overcome that difficulty, I have persevered until now. To overcome difficulties, we need to overcome our own psychology. Every time like that, I always tell myself "I can do it" to recharge my energy," Le Thanh Long added.

Along with Le Thanh Long, associate professor candidate Le Van Lich (Institute of Materials Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology) was also born in 1988.

Most medical professor candidates

The medical field has the largest number of professor candidates with 10 people, followed by physics with 9 people. The economic field has the largest number of associate professor candidates with 51 people, followed by the medical field with 47 people.

In fields that were previously difficult to consider for professorship and associate professorship, such as the interdisciplinary fields of culture - art - physical education and sports, this year there are also three professor candidates and 16 associate professor candidates, most of whom are from universities of culture, physical education and sports, and music academies. The youngest candidates in this group were born in 1981.

In some fields and interdisciplinary fields, 8X generation candidates account for over 50%. Mathematics has 16/25 candidates from the 8X generation, chemistry - food has 21/44, pharmacy has 9/13, electricity - electronics - automation has 13/26. Many candidates were born in 1985 - 1988.

According to Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Chief of Office of the State Council of Professors - after January 20, there will be official results from the industry and inter-industry councils about this round of awarding. But the obvious point this year is that there are few complaints about candidates that the State Council of Professors has to verify.

The scientific profiles of the candidates are publicly posted on the website of the State Council of Professors. Notably, the main research directions, training and scientific research results, number of scientific articles, etc. are publicly disclosed.

In previous years, complaints and feedback about candidates after the State Council of Professors published the list of candidates often mentioned the candidates' research results and published articles. Some candidates were also "accused" of being dishonest about their training qualifications, including their English proficiency.

Passionate enoughwill be motivated

"Pursuing the path of scientific research has never been easy. There are always failures that we have to accept and face. It not only requires researchers to have good professional knowledge, but most importantly, we ourselves must truly love it, see it as a passion, a goal to aim for. Because if we have enough passion, we will have the motivation to continue to stand up and move forward after those failures."

Le Thanh Long(Associate Professor Candidate)
