AAE-1 submarine cable has problem, internet connection is affected

AAE-1 is the first submarine cable system connecting all regions of Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe with the lowest connection latency between these regions. AAE-1 is connected at the world's largest data centers. It is a submarine cable line put into operation since July 2017 to improve the quality of internet connections to Europe and the Middle East, while adding capacity and backup to connections to Hong Kong (China) and Singapore.

The cause of the incident with the AAE-1 submarine cable has not yet been determined. Internet service providers (ISPs) in Vietnam have not yet received notice of the expected repair and troubleshooting plan from the cable management units.

Previously, the submarine cable connecting the Southeast Asia - Pacific region called Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) also encountered a problem, causing disruption of internet transmission services on the route. APG is one of the submarine cables that transmits large capacity internet connections from Vietnam to the world. At the end of January 2023, APG encountered a problem on branch S9. The schedule for the complete restoration of this submarine cable has been continuously postponed due to new errors on branches S7 and S9.

The APG submarine cable was put into operation at the end of 2016, with a length of about 10,400 km, located under the Pacific Ocean and has connection points in China, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. With the participation of telecommunications network operators in Vietnam (Viettel, VNPT, CMC and FPT), APG is a submarine cable that contributes to providing a stable transmission line with larger capacity for internet users in our country.
