The Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel) has just signed a memorandum of understanding with Singtel on cooperation in deploying the Vietnam - Singapore Cable System (VTS) submarine cable, directly connecting Vietnam and Singapore.

According to the agreement, the two sides plan to deploy the construction of a submarine cable connecting the main Vietnam - Singapore axis (VTS cable) with an 8-fiber pair (8FP) configuration, using the most modern wavelength multiplexing technology available today.

The main axis's landing stations are Vietnam (managed by Viettel) and Singapore (managed by Singtel). In addition, the cable line is expected to have landing branches in Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia. The cable line is expected to be put into operation in the second quarter of 2027.

When put into operation, the cable line will add hundreds of Tbps to Vietnam's total international connection capacity, opening up a new connection direction to the South. Having an additional submarine optical line connecting to Singapore will contribute to improving the redundancy and network safety of Vietnam's international connection infrastructure.

Previously, Viettel announced its investment in the Asia Direct Cable (ADC). This is the cable with the largest bandwidth in Vietnam, connecting to the 3 largest IP Hubs in Asia (Hong Kong (China), Japan, Singapore), and the landing station in Quy Nhon.

Viettel is also the largest Vietnamese investor in the Asia Link Cable (ALC) submarine cable connecting to 2 main IP Hubs in the Asia region (Hong Kong (China), Singapore), with the landing station expected in Da Nang.

Currently, Vietnamese telecommunications enterprises are participating in the exploitation of 5 international submarine optical cable lines including Asia America Gateway (AAG), APG (Asia Pacific Gateway), SMW3 (also known as SEA - ME - WE3), Intra Asia (IA, also known as Lien A) and Asia - Africa - Euro 1 (AAE-1).

According to the direction of the Ministry of Information and Communications, it is expected that by 2025, Vietnam will develop 4-6 more international submarine optical cable lines. The operation of new submarine optical cable lines will contribute to realizing the policy, adding more capacity to solve the need for domestic and international internet connection.
