An Internet service provider in Vietnam said the latest incident occurred on the Intra-Asia (IA) route on the morning of June 13, and was determined to be due to a power leak on the S1 branch heading to Singapore. Previously, two other routes connecting Vietnam also had problems, including APG since March and AAE-1 on May 23, both of which have not been resolved.

A series of consecutive incidents with 3 out of 5 cable lines has affected Internet access for many people.

Nguyen Lam (Ho Chi Minh City) said that from the evening of June 13 until this morning, he clearly felt the unstable access to the Internet connection at home. "Vietnamese websites are still very fast, but when opening foreign websites, it takes nearly 20 seconds," he said.

The problem also affects some services that require large capacity from abroad such as movie and game platforms. On some gaming communities in Vietnam, many people said they could not access the game, or had "high ping" leading to not being able to play.

Roblox, a gaming platform from overseas, confirmed that this situation "may result in cases where you are unable to connect or log in." The company recommends that users switch to a mobile connection or contact their carrier for support to fix the problem.

According to a representative of an Internet service provider in Vietnam, immediately after the incident occurred, the company worked with the responsible partner to find a solution as soon as possible. In addition, similar to previous cable break situations, the network operator also introduced many measures such as transferring the load to other directions or via land cables.

Vietnam currently connects to the international Internet via five submarine cable lines. Interruptions with these cables are not uncommon. In February 2023, there was a period when all five lines had problems, causing Vietnam's Internet connection to lose 75% of its capacity, forcing network operators to purchase additional capacity in the mainland direction. After that, many separate incidents continued to occur, causing this connection to be almost incomplete until the last months of the year.

According to the information and communication infrastructure planning, Vietnam will add to increase the number to 7-9 routes by 2025 and 9-11 routes by 2030.
