The official visit to Vietnam by the President of Mozambique continues to affirm that the good traditional friendship between the two countries has always been preserved and developed by the leaders and people of both sides.
At the invitation of General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife, President of the Republic of Mozambique Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and his wife arrived in Hanoi, beginning an official visit to Vietnam from September 8-10.
On the morning of September 9, at the Presidential Palace, General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife chaired the official welcoming ceremony for President of the Republic of Mozambique Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and his wife on an official visit to Vietnam.
Attending the welcoming ceremony were Head of the Central External Relations Commission Le Hoai Trung; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Head of the Office of the President Le Khanh Hai; Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien; Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan; Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung; Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Do Duc Duy; Deputy Minister of National Defense Vu Hai San; Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Pham Hoang Kim; Assistant to General Secretary and President To An Xo.
Many children in the capital waved flags of both countries to welcome President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and his wife and the high-ranking delegation of Mozambique.
This is President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi's first visit to Vietnam since he took office in 2015. The visit helps the leaders of the two countries enhance mutual understanding, while developing bilateral relations in a substantive and in-depth manner.
The motorcade carrying President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and his wife entered the Presidential Palace. General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife warmly welcomed President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, who led the high-ranking delegation of Mozambique on an official visit to Vietnam.
Amidst the welcoming music, General Secretary and President To Lam invited the President of Mozambique to step up to the podium of honor.
After listening to the national anthems of the two countries, General Secretary and President To Lam and President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi left the podium, bowed to the military flag and inspected the Guard of Honor of the Vietnam People's Army. Next, the two leaders introduced the members of the high-ranking delegations of the two countries attending the welcoming ceremony.
Vietnam and Mozambique have a long-standing traditional friendship. The two countries established relations on June 25, 1975, the day Mozambique declared independence.
Historically, the two countries have supported each other in the struggle for national independence. The images of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, and the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign have been deeply imprinted and present in the feelings of generations of leaders and people of Mozambique.
In Maputo city of Mozambique, there is Ho Chi Minh Avenue, named by the first President of independent Mozambique, Samora Moisos Machel, in 1977, to honor President Ho Chi Minh, showing solidarity with the Vietnamese people.
Over the years, the traditional political and diplomatic relations and friendship have been well developed, demonstrated through many high-level visits and delegation exchanges at all levels of the two sides' leaders. The two countries have signed many agreements and cooperation agreements on politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, investment, agriculture, fisheries, science and technology, telecommunications, health, education and training, culture, security and defense, finance, banking, provincial cooperation, etc., creating conditions for ministries and branches to expand cooperation.
The Communist Party of Vietnam and the ruling Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) have a good traditional friendship, which is a solid political foundation to promote bilateral relations in many fields.
Relations between the legislative bodies of the two countries have also been consistently strengthened and developed positively, contributing significantly to strengthening the traditional friendship between the two countries. The two countries actively coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums.
Economic, trade and investment cooperation is a highlight in the relationship between the two countries. Mozambique is a potential market, possessing vast natural resources including: land, sea, minerals... and the potential to develop crops such as cashew nuts, cotton, soybeans, sugarcane... Vietnam and Mozambique signed a Trade Agreement (November 14, 2013) with the desire to establish supportive and complementary relationships and expand cooperation between the two countries; at the same time, determined to consolidate, strengthen and diversify bilateral trade relations.
In 2020, bilateral trade turnover reached 157.18 million USD; in 2021, it reached 150 million USD; in 2022, it reached over 177 million USD and in 2023, it reached 546.4 million USD. Vietnam mainly exports rice, fertilizers, and diverse goods, and mainly imports coal of all kinds and cashew nuts.
On the basis of good relations, Vietnam and Mozambique are continuing to consolidate and develop the traditional friendship to new heights, towards the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations in 2025.

The two leaders will also witness the signing ceremony of cooperation documents.
