Candidates who won the provincial-level 9th grade excellent student award will not receive bonus points when taking the 10th grade entrance exam.

However, many parents, students, and even teachers in Hai Duong are mistakenly thinking that candidates who win prizes in the provincial 9th ​​grade excellent student selection exam will receive bonus points when taking the 10th grade high school entrance exam.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong, Circular No. 30/2024/TT-BGDDT clearly stipulates that the subjects eligible for bonus points are junior high school students who win provincial-level prizes organized by the Department of Education and Training or in coordination with departments and branches organized on a provincial scale for competitions organized at the national level. Thus, for provincial-level competitions that are not simultaneously organized at the national level, candidates who win provincial-level prizes will not be awarded bonus points when taking the 10th grade entrance exam for high school.

For example, candidates who won prizes in the contest to select excellent grade 9 students in Hai Duong province in the 2024-2025 school year will not receive bonus points when taking the 10th grade high school entrance exam in the 2025-2026 school year.

However, the winners of the Hai Duong Province Science and Technology Research Competition in the 2024-2025 school year will receive bonus points when taking the 10th grade entrance exam in the 2025-2026 school year because this competition is also organized at the national level. For example, students of Phan Boi Chau Secondary School (Tu Ky) who just won first prize in the Hai Duong Province Science and Technology Research Competition in the 2024-2025 school year will receive bonus points when taking the 10th grade entrance exam.

Also according to Circular No. 30/2024/TT-BGDDT, the incentive points are added depending on the student's award, the lowest is 0.5 points, the highest is 1.5 points. Specifically, students who win first prize will be added 1.5 points, students who win second prize will be added 1 point, students who win third prize will be added 0.5 points. The incentive points are added to the total admission score calculated on a 10-point scale for each subject and exam. This is a nationwide regulation to ensure fairness between students of provinces and cities.
