FPT University cooperated with FPT Semiconductor Corporation to establish a semiconductor microchip department to train high-quality human resources for this industry.
It is expected that the Faculty of Microcircuits and Semiconductors of FPT University will officially train the first batch of students in 2024, with the orientation of specialized training in microcircuit design and conducting research for the semiconductor microcircuit industry in Vietnam.
The program, curriculum and training standards are expected to be coordinated by FPT University with leading universities in this field in the US and Taiwan (China), which are 2 of the 4 leading countries and territories in chips and semiconductors globally (including the US, Taiwan (China), Japan, and South Korea).
FPT University also cooperates with certification training institutions and businesses in this industry to provide a variety of degrees and certificates - from short-term certificates of 6 months to 2 years, to advanced training programs, second degree training, college, university and postgraduate training in microchips and semiconductors.
As a billion-dollar industry, semiconductors are also a labor-hungry industry globally.
“According to global human resource experts, by 2030 the semiconductor industry will lack 1 million employees. Currently, when the workforce trained from the four semiconductor powerhouses, the US, Taiwan (China), Japan, and South Korea, is not enough to meet the demand, the Southeast Asian market, especially Vietnam, has the opportunity to capture this global demand to rise in the rankings of both industry education and supply of high-quality human resources for the industry,” said Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang, Director of FPT Semiconductor Company, who is also the Acting Head of the Semiconductor Microchip Department.
Vietnam has also become one of the top two countries that semiconductor manufacturers in the world plan to choose to invest in. A representative of FPT University said: “The booming semiconductor industry and the scarcity of resources are a great opportunity for young Vietnamese personnel to confidently step out into the world with global competitiveness. This is also an opportunity for Vietnam to gradually learn, master technology and design its own national chip lines. FPT University will build a model for students of the Semiconductor Microchip to go abroad to work in the semiconductor industry, thereby learning, accumulating and soon having the capacity to contribute to the comprehensive development of the industry.”
FPT University plans to coordinate available resources of FPT Semiconductor Company and the system of companies belonging to FPT Group spanning over 30 countries to build a model to send Semiconductor Microchip graduates abroad to work at leading semiconductor companies and markets globally.
In the resolution concluding the regular meeting in July 2023, the Government assigned ministries and branches to quickly develop and implement a project to develop human resources for the semiconductor industry by 2030, which plans to train about 30,000 - 50,000 human resources and experts for the semiconductor industry.
