Data from the General Statistics Office shows that the labor and employment situation in the first quarter of 2023 recovered positively; the unemployment rate and underemployment rate of the working-age labor force decreased compared to the previous quarter and decreased compared to the same period last year.

Specifically, the labor force aged 15 and over nationwide in the first quarter was estimated at 52.2 million people, an increase of 88,700 people compared to the previous quarter and an increase of more than 1 million people compared to the same period last year. The labor force participation rate was estimated at 68.9%, an increase of 0.8 percentage points compared to the same period last year. The average monthly income of wage workers was VND 7.9 million, an increase of VND 578,000.

The estimated unemployment rate among working-age people was 2.25%, down 0.07 percentage points from the previous quarter and down 0.21 percentage points from the same period last year. The underemployment rate among working-age people was 1.94%.

Regarding people's lives and social security work: as of March 20, the value of gifts for social protection beneficiaries from the budget and socialized sources was nearly 1,240 billion VND; poor and near-poor households was over 2,340 billion VND; people with meritorious services and relatives of people with meritorious services to the revolution was over 2,560 billion VND. In addition, social insurance has issued more than 26 million health insurance cards/books/free medical examination and treatment cards to beneficiaries.

The report of this unit also said that in the first quarter, natural disasters injured 8 people; 158 houses collapsed and damaged; 2,600 livestock and poultry died; 9,000 hectares of rice and crops were damaged; the total value of property damage was estimated at 70.5 billion VND.

Regarding environmental violations, in the past time, the authorities have detected 5,387 cases, of which 4,741 cases were handled with a total fine of 71.5 billion VND; nationwide, there were 405 fires and explosions, killing 16 people and injuring 11 others, with estimated damage of 22.4 billion VND.
