Porsche's first electric SUV is developed on the new PPE platform and includes two versions: Macan 4 and Macan Turbo.
Porsche's second electric vehicle after the Taycan, the Macan EV looks similar to the rest of the Porsche family. It is built on the same PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform as the Audi Q6 e-tron. The length of the Macan EV is 4,786 mm, 58 mm longer than the petrol Macan. In terms of width and height, the battery version is slightly better.
The electric SUV has a coupe-like silhouette, with a roofline that slopes down towards the rear. But unlike the Cayenne Coupe, the rear of the Macan is more steeply raked. The Macan EV has a drag coefficient of just 0.25 Cd, which is very good for an SUV, thanks to a flat, race-car-like underbody and a retractable spoiler.
Slightly larger than the internal combustion engine version, the interior of the Macan EV is also more spacious. Rear passengers have more legroom, and the luggage compartment has also increased by 124 liters. In addition, the electric SUV also has an additional 84 liters of storage in the front trunk because this area no longer has an internal combustion engine.
All Macan EV versions (Macan 4 and Macan Turbo) are all-wheel drive thanks to an electric motor on each axle. 100 kWh 800 V battery pack, 95 kWh usable. Battery cells designed by Porsche, manufactured by CATL in Germany.
The integrated battery management system allows for fast charging at up to 270 kW. In real-world conditions, the Macan EV's battery can be charged by 10-80% in just 21 minutes if fast-charged. In terms of range, according to Porsche, the Macan 4 has a combined range of 516-613 km (316-373 miles), while the city range is 665-784 km (465-484 miles). The Macan Turbo has a range of 518-591 km (318-491 miles) and 670-765 km (460-480 miles).
Meanwhile, according to world media, with EPA standards, both the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo have an estimated combined range of 482 km. In reality, the distance traveled is often slightly lower than the manufacturer's published figure. It can be said that the Macan EV has a range of nearly 500 km.
As an electric car with a sporty driving style, the Macan EV does not have a one-pedal driving mode and does not have a low-speed stop - a feature that increases and decreases speed using only the accelerator pedal thanks to the effect of regenerative braking.
The Macan EV has three screens in the dashboard area. The 10.9-inch infotainment screen is in the middle, the driver's screen is 12.6 inches, and the screen in front of the passenger seat is also 10.9 inches.
The driver information display can integrate virtual reality (AR) technology, displaying instructions in images that appear 10 meters away from the driver, and within the range of an 87-inch screen. The driver's seat is lowered by 28 mm compared to the gasoline version, which is a notable change, creating a sporty driving position, increasing the driver's feeling.
The Macan 4 has 402 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 5.2 seconds before reaching a top speed of 130 mph. Both the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo can be converted to rear-wheel drive by sending all the power to the rear wheels.
The Turbo version has 630 horsepower and 1,128 Nm of torque. Its top speed is also higher, at 259 km/h and acceleration time to 100 km/h is only 3.3 seconds - faster than the Porsche 911 GT3 with 502 horsepower.
The versions also feature PTV Plus technology, with the more advanced version allowing the rear motor to function as a differential lock. In addition, the 4WD system allows the two rear wheels to turn up to 5 degrees in two different directions for increased stability at high speeds or when cornering at low speeds. Both versions are equipped as standard with the new 2-valve 2-chamber air suspension system.
In the US, the Macan 4 starts at $78,800. Meanwhile, the internal combustion engine Macan with a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbo engine, 261 horsepower, starts at $60,900 and is not as fast nor as technologically advanced as the electric version.
The Macan Turbo starts at $105,300. This is also much higher than the gasoline version, the 2024 Macan GTS, which starts at $88,500.
The company representative shared that when selling the electric Macan, the gasoline version will stop selling in the European market, while other markets will sell it in parallel. Porsche said that they only aim for the direct competitor for the Macan EV, which is the Macan with an internal combustion engine. In fact, in the market, if counting internal combustion engine models, the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, or Genesis G70 do not have any competitors that are worthy of the Macan EV in terms of performance.
Electric models that could stand close to the Macan EV are the BMW iX3 or Tesla Model Y Performance. The Audi Q6 e-tron itself could be a potential rival.
Porsche said it has started taking orders and that deliveries are scheduled for this summer. It also said production may not be enough to meet demand, though it did not specify how many.
