The festival "Promoting Vietnamese culinary culture" opened from October 20 to 22 at Thong Nhat Hall (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) and attracted a large number of tourists to enjoy specialties from regions across the country.
On the evening of October 20, the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, the Saigon Professional Chefs Association, the Center for Research, Preservation and Development of Vietnamese Cuisine and the MAGGI brand held the opening ceremony of the "Promoting Vietnamese Culinary Culture" Festival to honor the unique culinary cultures of regions across the country.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, said that the festival aims to honor artisans and chefs who have made many contributions to Vietnamese cuisine on the occasion of World Chefs Day, October 20. Accordingly, the festival has about 100 booths introducing regional dishes to serve the public. Here, visitors can experience and enjoy regional specialties made by professional chefs and culinary artisans of Ho Chi Minh City and other localities.
"The highlight of the event is that hundreds of chefs will compete and decorate the Vietnamese culinary map with 126 typical dishes from 63 provinces and cities across the country. On the other hand, in the festival grounds, for the first time, a culinary map will be displayed with all the unique and special products of the cuisines of regions across the country," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said that the festival is also an opportunity to promote Vietnamese cuisine to the world, while promoting culinary tourism, becoming an attractive destination to attract international tourists. It is expected that about 50,000 visitors will come to visit and eat at the festival.
"In the Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy to 2030, the tourism industry also identifies culinary culture as the main cultural stream. Because in recent times, Vietnamese cuisine has created a buzz and received major awards from the world, voted by CNN in the list of the 50 best dishes in the world in 2019. Not only that, many leading politicians in the world such as former US President Obama when coming to Vietnam all spent time enjoying the quintessential dishes of Vietnamese cuisine. Therefore, to promote Vietnamese cuisine internationally, Vietnam's tourism promotion activities are always associated with promoting culture and cuisine in all regions of the country," said Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh.
