A plane carrying famous artist and politician Aurelio Martínez crashed into the sea off the coast of Honduras, killing 12 people and leaving one missing.
According to The Guardian, an Aerolinea Lanhsa Airlines plane crashed off the coast of Honduras on the evening of March 17 (local time). On board the flight was Aurelio Martínez, one of Honduras' leading artists.
According to aviation officials, the plane suddenly turned sharply to the right of the runway and crashed into the sea, about 1 km from shore.
The plane was carrying 15 passengers and 3 crew members. Of these, 12 died, 5 passengers survived, and 1 is still missing. Artist Aurelio Martínez was among those killed.
Aurelio Martínez is one of the most famous Garifuna singer-songwriters, once hailed by The Guardian as "the greatest artist of Garifuna music".
In addition to his musical career, Aurelio Martínez is also involved in politics and served as a member of the Honduran Congress from 2006 to 2010, becoming the first African-American to hold this position.
