No. 1 female badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh will compete in the French Open this week.

Last week, Nguyen Thuy Linh participated in the German Open and finished as runner-up. In the final match on the evening of March 3, she lost to Danish player Mia Blichfeldt and accepted second place.

On the way to the final match of the tournament, Nguyen Thuy Linh continuously overcame strong opponents. In the quarter-finals, she won convincingly against former world number 1 Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand.

In the semi-finals, Nguyen Thuy Linh played with determination and surprisingly defeated the second seed of the tournament, Kim Ga Eun. Unfortunately, her declining physical strength and mistakes prevented her from winning the championship in the final match.

However, the second place result still helps Thuy Linh accumulate 5,950 points. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is expected to announce the new rankings on March 5. It is likely that the Vietnamese player will return to the world's top 20 (currently ranked 23rd).

Right after finishing the tournament in Germany, Thuy Linh will continue to compete in the French Open. Of course, her goal is still to continue playing well to accumulate more points. In addition to improving her ranking on the world rankings, she also needs to maintain her position in the qualifying group for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In this ranking, Thuy Linh is ranked 22nd. Although this is a safe position, if she does not continue to accumulate more points, she may fall behind.

Unlike the German Open, the French Open will be a much bigger tournament. It is a Super 750 tournament, meaning it is the second-highest ranking in the BWF World Tour Super system (the highest is 1,000). Meanwhile, the German Open is only a Super 300 tournament.

Higher rankings mean more points. This year's French Open is packed with some of the world's top players. In the women's singles alone, all of the world's top 10 players have registered to compete.

That means top names like An Se Young (world number 1), Chen Yu Fei (ranked 2nd), Tai Tzu Ying (ranked 3rd),… will all compete.

Therefore, Nguyen Thuy Linh will certainly face many difficulties. However, it is expected that she will only have to meet the world's 27th ranked player Wen Chi Hsu in the first round, an opponent that cannot be underestimated. However, Thuy Linh's chances of winning are still higher than when facing players with better skills.

The French Open badminton tournament will take place from March 5 to 10 in Paris.
