Surpassing Medicine and Pharmacy, Pedagogy, computer majors such as: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology... this year continue to "reign" with very high benchmark scores.

Universities across the country have announced their 2023 admission scores. It is not surprising that computer-related majors such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence... continue to lead the admission scores at technical schools.

The benchmark scores of these majors are also higher than those of other majors such as Medicine, Dentistry, which have traditionally had high scores, or famous majors in Pedagogy in recent years such as Mathematics and Chemistry Pedagogy...

This year, the majors of Computer Science; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence have the highest benchmark scores at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Computer Science has a benchmark score of 29.42; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence has a benchmark score of 28.8, and Computer Engineering also has a benchmark score of 28.29. With the calculation of the score of DXT = (Math x 2 + Subject 2 + Subject 3) x 3/4 + Priority points, both national top students of block A00 with 29.35 failed Computer Science.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, the benchmark score for Computer Science leads with 79.84, followed by the benchmark score for Computer Engineering with 78.26. The admission score of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology is calculated based on the results of the Competency Assessment Exam of Ho Chi Minh City National University or Hanoi National University (weighted at 75%), the results of the high school graduation exam (weighted at 20%), the results of the high school learning process (weighted at 5%) and other criteria including: personal achievements, social activities, literature, sports and arts.

Admission score formula = [Converted National High School Exam Score] x 75% + [Converted High School Graduation Exam Score] x 20% + [High School Academic Performance] x 5% (this formula does not include additional points).

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, Computer Science (advanced program) continues to hold the highest standard score at 28.05. Next is Artificial Intelligence with a standard score of 27 in the first year of admission according to its own code.

At the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), the Artificial Intelligence major has the highest standard score at 27.8 points, followed by the Data Science major with a standard score above 27 points. At the school that specializes in Information Technology, all majors have a standard score of 25.4 or higher. That means that candidates who score more than 8 points/subject are not sure to be admitted.

Meanwhile, the benchmark scores for computer-related majors at the National Economics University, Da Nang University of Technology, Hanoi University of Science, and University of Technology (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) are also in the highest and second highest groups.

Why do computer industries continue to lead?

Mr. Pham Thai Son, Director of Admissions at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, explained that Information Technology and many other IT-related industries are very hot because IT engineers have much higher salaries than other industries.

"IT engineers earn at least 20 to 30 million VND/month. I have a younger brother who graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology with a degree in Information Technology and currently earns about 100 million VND/month," said Mr. Son.

The Admissions Director of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade added that those working in this field also enjoy benefits such as family insurance, international hospital visits, and foreign travel...

The second reason, according to Mr. Son, is that information technology-related industries are currently in high demand for recruitment at large domestic technology companies as well as foreign companies.

Third, IT engineers can work in any company because nowadays many problems require IT to operate. However, according to Mr. Son, the IT industry has a shorter "career life" than other industries. IT engineers can only work until they are 45 - 50 years old and may run out of ideas. If they do not rise up to become business owners or company leaders, they will be eliminated.

However, many people still choose the Information Technology industry because the current high salary is so attractive. Mr. Son also warned that choosing a trendy industry, in addition to focusing on studying and practicing, also requires good English communication skills.

Mr. Phung Quan, Admissions Consultant, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, believes that Computer Science has been hot in recent years because firstly, Computer Science is the "key" to breakthrough in the 4.0 Industrial Revolution.

This is the field of study that studies the application of algorithms in computer programs. By using many algorithms and advanced mathematics, computer scientists can create new ways to operate and transmit information, including research on data structures, databases, data warehouses, algorithms for analyzing - processing - mining data, artificial intelligence, IoT (Internet of Things) and Big Data systems serving all aspects of the economy and society...

On the other hand, the major equips students with basic and in-depth knowledge in the field of information technology such as: Computer architecture, operating systems, software and hardware programming languages, artificial intelligence, network security and safety, design and development of multi-platform applications... Computer Science is for young people who are passionate about in-depth research on information technology and the computing capabilities of computer systems.

Graduates of Computer Science can work in many positions such as: Analyst, designer in the field of information technology; project developer, policy planner for developing information technology applications; programmer developing system software at companies in the field of information technology in Vietnam and abroad.

Second, in recent years, the global digital transformation wave, projects to develop sustainable smart cities in Vietnam by 2030, the National Digital Transformation Program by 2030, the National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence Development by 2030, the high demand for Computer Science human resources from the Japanese, American and European markets...

Ho Chi Minh City is also implementing the program "Research and development of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the period of 2020-2030". These are the premises to promote the development of the Computer Science industry at a rapid pace and lead the demand for human resources.

Finally, according to some reports, the average salary of computer science professionals is around $90,000 - $100,000 per year. This salary can increase significantly with experience and high expertise.

With the rapid growth of Computer Science, career opportunities and good salaries are very potential. If you are looking for a challenging and high-potential field of study, Computer Science can be a good choice for candidates.
