A Hai Duong student won a bronze medal at the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad

On the afternoon of May 26, the leaders of Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted said that Duy Anh's exam was one of the 6 excellent entries selected by the Organizing Committee of the 2021 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad to compete and win a bronze medal. This is his outstanding achievement when this year's competition had many strong competitors from both the country and the region participating.

Since 2013 – the year Vietnam first participated in the contest, this is the third time our province has had a student win the prize. Before Duy Anh, Nguyen Phan Quang Minh, a student at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted, won two consecutive silver medals in the contest in 2013 and 2014.

The Asia-Pacific Olympiad in Informatics is a competition organized similar to the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) for delegations in the Asia and Western Pacific regions. The competition was first held in Australia in 2007.

This year's competition was held on May 22 and 23, hosted by Indonesia, with more than 900 contestants from 35 countries and territories in Asia and the Western Pacific participating. Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the teams participated in the competition online. The Vietnamese national team consisted of 15 contestants. As a result, the team won 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals.

In the 2020-2021 school year, Nguyen Trai High School has two students participating in the Vietnam national team participating in the Olympic competitions. In addition to Duy Anh, the second person is Pham Duc Nam Phuong, a 12th grade chemistry student. It is known that Nam Phuong will join the team to participate in the International Chemistry Olympiad, scheduled to take place in July this year.
