Toyota has introduced the FT-Me concept car, a small two-seater, solar-powered vehicle with a range of up to 100 km.
The FT-Me is about 2.5 meters long, equivalent to a golf cart, allowing for flexible urban mobility. The roof is equipped with solar panels, increasing the operating range. This is part of Toyota's electric vehicle expansion strategy, along with the C-HR+ electric SUV.
Mr. Join Stijn Peters - Head of New Vehicle Planning and Development at R&D, Toyota Motor Europe commented on the size of the car: “The space of the car is still enough for two people. With a length of less than 2.5 m, the car is extremely flexible and only takes up half of a normal parking space. Even when parked perpendicularly, it only takes up a maximum of 1/3 of a parking space”.
The modern design in white and black, inspired by the pilot's helmet, gives it a strong and sophisticated look. With its compact size, the vehicle can flexibly move in the city, on campus or for short trips.
The powertrain consumes three times less energy than current electric vehicles. Toyota also uses recycled materials, reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional city cars.
The Toyota FT-Me is equipped with a roof with integrated solar panels, which can add 20-30 km of operating range per day, with an estimated total distance of about 100 km. The car is designed to be suitable for all ages, including teenagers from 14 years old in some countries with a basic driving license.
The rectangular steering wheel is designed to be wheelchair accessible, allowing for complete manual control without the need for pedals.
The dashboard has a small screen that acts as a smart connected digital clock. Thanks to its special design, FT-Me allows the driver to have a 360-degree viewing angle, optimizing visibility for moving in crowded urban environments.
The Toyota FT-Me is about the same size as France's Citroën Ami, a mini electric car that costs around $7,000 and has a range of 74 km.
PageElectrekIt is predicted that if launched in the US with a price of around $ 10,000, the FT-Me could be an attractive option. However, due to the low demand for small cars in the US, this model may not be sold here.
