Police allege that since the beginning of 2022, Mai has used a Facebook account named Trieu Phuong Mai to post many articles about horoscopes, physiognomy, and divination.
In April 2024, Mai received a Facebook message from Ms. Do in Tu Son City, Bac Ninh asking her to tell her fortune online. From there, Mai made up many untrue spiritual stories, making her afraid. Mai repeatedly asked for money to help with the ceremony with reasons such as being followed by a spirit, failing to dispel bad luck due to eating meat steamed with shrimp paste, and having a traffic accident if she did not continue to dispel bad luck...
The cost of each ritual is 25-54 million VND. From July 2024 until now, Mai is accused of defrauding Ms. Do of more than 1 billion VND.
Police suspect that there are many more victims of Mai, so they are calling for reports to the investigation agency for support in resolving the matter.
