South Korean automaker Kia announced on October 7 that the three best-selling car models in Korea from January to September 2024 all belonged to Kia.
From January to September this year, the company dominated the top three sales spots in Korea with the Sorento SUV topping the list with 67,314 units sold, followed by the Carnival minivan with 62,352 units and the Sportage SUV in third place with 56,063 units. Korean car dealers expect the Sorento to be the best-selling model this year.
Meanwhile, Hyundai's Santa Fe SUV ranked fourth with 56,042 units, followed by the Porter pickup truck and Hyundai's flagship Grandeur sedan, known as the Azera overseas, with sales of 53,365 units and 51,964 units, respectively.
South Korean auto industry experts attribute Kia's strong performance to consumers' growing preference for SUVs over sedans, along with rising demand for hybrids as the adoption of electric vehicles temporarily slows.
Kia's Sorento, Carnival and Sportage models all come in hybrid versions, catering to consumers looking for a more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly option.
