According to Variety, the film earned $601 million domestically and $861 million internationally after six weeks of release. Meanwhile, Frozen 2 (2019) fell to second place with $1.45 billion.

The second part of Inside Out also set a record for the fastest animated film to cross the $1 billion mark, in 19 days - the highest grossing film of the year. On July 24, director Kelsey Mann and producer Mark Nielsen wrote on Instagram: "We are completely surprised by the love of the film from audiences around the world."

Experts say the film was a success thanks to word-of-mouth and the influence of the original 2015 film, which grossed $858 million worldwide. The project also helped Pixar escape its box office slump. In 2023, the company's Elemental grossed just under $500 million, a revenue that was deemed unworthy of its $200 million budget. Lightyear (2022) lost money, earning only 226 million USD, despite an investment of 200 million USD.

In terms of quality, the film received an A on Cinemascore. On Rotten Tomastoes, critics and audiences both gave it a positive rating of over 90%, making it a contender for the Best Animated Feature category at the 2025 Oscars.

The film received a "shower" of compliments, highly appreciated by experts for its content and animation techniques. Variety commented that the film was not as surprising as the first part but was emotional, with many layers of meaning about maturity. Digital Spy said that Inside Out 2 approached the stage of the 13+ age group in a humorous, creative way, affecting many audiences. According to Total Film, the project maintained the same fun, colorful atmosphere as the first part.

To add authenticity to the emotions, Pixar gathered a group of nine girls aged 13-19 to come to the studio every four months to review and comment on drafts of the film, according to Discussing Film. Director Kelsey Mann also consulted with psychologists to decide how many new characters to include in the film.

Inside Out was first released in 2015, directed by Pete Docter, and was a critical and commercial success. The film won the 2016 Oscar for Best Animated Feature, grossing $858.8 million worldwide.

Part 2 is set two years after the events of the 2015 film. The character Riley is now 13 years old, with many changes in her psychology. When Riley transfers schools, her emotions argue about how to control her mood.
