On February 14, South Korean authorities announced that eight workers suffered cardiac arrest and were hospitalized in a serious fire at the Banyan Tree hotel construction site in the southeastern port city of Busan.
At around 10:50 a.m., a fire suddenly broke out at the construction site, where about 10 workers were working.
Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and deployed helicopters to rescue those trapped inside. Some workers received first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene.
Faced with the dire situation, authorities have raised the emergency response level to level 2 (in a 3-tier system) to mobilize additional resources and enhance response capabilities.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
