'Mother's Ghost' is an engaging horror film that not only brings creepy moments but also touches on a touching message about maternal love.
“Mother’s Ghost” is an Indonesian horror film that revolves around the story of Maya, a young girl who has to take care of her little sister and her seriously ill mother. Things start to get terrifying when Maya discovers that her family is suffering from a terrifying curse that has lasted for generations.
Maya's mother, in the past, performed a spirit-summoning ritual called Perewangan in exchange for wealth. However, the ritual came at a terrible price: the blood and lives of generations of her family.
Strange phenomena begin to occur, pushing Maya and her family into inevitable danger. To protect her loved ones, Maya is forced to face terrifying supernatural forces and dark family secrets.
The film has an engaging plot, leading viewers through fragments of memories, gradually revealing the secrets of Maya's family, creating a sense of tension and suspense. The script is coherent in building the connection between generations in the family and the terrible consequences they must bear.
The cast’s authentic performances make it easy for the audience to empathize and immerse themselves in the story. Davina Karamoy, as Maya, delivers an emotional performance. Maya emerges as a character who is both strong and vulnerable, facing internal struggles and supernatural threats. Beby Evelyn and Ully Triani also make their mark as Maya’s sister and mother, conveying their helplessness and terror in the face of the curse.
Beyond a horror film, the message of family love brings lingering emotions to the audience.
The film, directed by Awi Suryadi, officially opened in theaters in Hai Duong City from January 17.
