The annual naval exercise, which takes place in waters off the east, west and south of South Korea, is aimed at testing the combat readiness of the country's naval forces. The exercise involves command ships and personnel from the Republic of Korea Navy's 1st, 2nd and 3rd Fleets.

To serve the “high-intensity” exercise, the South Korean Navy mobilized 13 ships, including the KDX-I class destroyer, Eulji Mundeok, and four aircraft, with the aim of enhancing the mission performance capabilities of each fleet, thereby protecting the maritime operating areas of these fleets.

During the exercise, the 2nd Fleet conducted live-fire and tactical maneuvering drills in the waters west of Taean County, 109 km southwest of Seoul. Meanwhile, the 1st and 3rd Fleets conducted drills in the East China Sea and the waters west of Heuksan Island, respectively.

While overseeing the exercise on a P-3C patrol aircraft, Admiral Lee Jong-ho, chief of staff of the South Korean Navy, stressed the importance of practical training through enhancing combat will and strengthening soldiers' morale.
