People march in Seoul, expressing support for the ruling of the Constitutional Court of South Korea to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol from office.

According to a survey released on April 7, nearly 80% of South Koreans surveyed said they accepted the Constitutional Court's ruling to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol from office for declaring martial law on the night of December 3 last year.

Survey firm Realmeter interviewed 1,516 adults in South Korea from April 2 to 4 and found that 76.9% of respondents said they accepted the court's decision, while 17% did not accept it and 15% were undecided.

Among supporters of the main opposition Democratic Party, 86.5% said they agreed with the verdict, compared with 65.5% among supporters of the ruling People's Power Party.

The South Korean government has tentatively decided to hold a presidential election on June 3 to elect a successor to Yoon Suk Yeol. The final decision will be confirmed at a cabinet meeting this week.

According to Yonhap news agency, Acting President Han Duck Soo will confirm the schedule at a cabinet meeting scheduled for April 8.

According to the South Korean Constitution, a presidential election must be held within 60 days of Mr. Yoon's removal from office.

If the election is held on June 3, candidates will have to register by May 11 and campaigning will begin on May 12.

Civil servants who want to run for president must resign at least 30 days in advance, by May 4 at the latest.

The new president will take office immediately after the official election results are known and there is no need for a transition of government.
