Vu Van Thang in Kinh Mon sentenced to 17 years in prison for killing his roommate for talking too much about 'his wife leaving him'

According to the indictment, Thang and Mr. THD (born in 1982, residing in Dong Quang commune, Gia Loc) both work as industrial cleaners and rent a room on Duc Minh street, Thanh Binh ward (Hai Duong city).

At about 9:00 a.m. on June 11, 2024, Mr. Vu Van Nhat (born in 1988, residing in Trung Xa commune, Luong Tai district, Bac Ninh), a friend of Mr. D. and Thang, came to visit.

After that, Thang, Mr. D. and Mr. Nhat sat down to drink alcohol in the rented room. While eating and drinking together, Thang talked about his wife's upcoming divorce. Because Mr. D. kept mentioning that Thang's wife was about to divorce him, the two had a conflict.

At about 3:00 p.m. the same day, Mr. D. chased Thang out of the boarding house and did not allow him to stay with him.

Because he drank too much, showed signs of being drunk and was angry that Mr. D. was repeatedly reminding him that his wife was about to leave him and not let him stay with her, Thang stood up and went to the kitchen of the rented room to get a knife to threaten Mr. D. not to kick him out.

Thang took a knife and walked closer to where Mr. D. was sitting, then used the back of the knife to hit Mr. D.'s forehead 2-3 times and said, "So what are you going to do now?" Mr. D. challenged him and said, "Do whatever you want." So Thang went around behind where Mr. D. was sitting, used the knife to stab Mr. D. once in the neck.

After being stabbed, Mr. D. took Mr. Nhat's shirt nearby to cover the wound, then fell to the floor, broke a glass cup and died at the scene. After confirming that Mr. D. was dead, Mr. Nhat drove Thang to Thanh Binh Ward Police Station to surrender.

Hai Duong Provincial People's Court sentenced Vu Van Thang to 17 years in prison for murder under the provisions of Point n, Clause 1, Article 123 of the Penal Code.
