On the morning of March 25, the High People's Court in Hanoi opened an appeal hearing to try defendant Trinh Van Quyet (former Chairman of FLC Group) along with his sisters and many related defendants.
The second appeal hearing was opened to consider the appeals of 25 defendants and related parties.
At today's trial, defendant Trinh Van Quyet was absent and asked to postpone the trial.
The panel of judges announced that the defendant Trinh Van Quyet had submitted a request for authorization to be tried in absentia due to his health condition. The defendant often had difficulty breathing and had rashes all over his body due to drug allergies.
Currently, defendant Trinh Van Quyet is being treated for many diseases, has a high risk of death, has difficulty breathing, and needs to use oxygen regularly. The patient is being maintained on anti-allergy medication regimen, non-invasive ventilation, and needs to be treated in hospital. Therefore, defendant Quyet cannot be brought to court.
Of the 45 lawyers registered to defend the defendants, many were absent and asked for a postponement of the trial.
