The Sterling Heights Stellantis plant will see a $235.5 million investment to produce the Ram brand's first all-electric pickup truck.
Multinational automaker Stellantis has just announced plans to invest more than $400 million in three factories in Michigan (USA) with the aim of strongly converting to electric vehicle (EV) and battery production.
Investments in this northern US state will support Stellantis' "multi-energy strategy" to prepare for a variety of electrification scenarios, the company said.
The move is part of the company's "Dare Forward 2030" plan to invest more than 50 billion euros ($55 billion) in electrification, with the goal of having all of its vehicles sold to customers in Europe be fully electric by 2030 and accounting for 50% of EV and light truck sales in the US.
In Michigan, the historic center of American auto manufacturing, Stellantis said it will invest $235.5 million in its Sterling Heights plant, which will produce the brand’s first all-electric pickup truck, the Ram 1500 REV, which is expected to go on sale later this year.
The company recently modernized its factory to be able to produce both internal combustion engine and electric vehicles on the same assembly line.
Meanwhile, the Warren truck factory will be invested about 97.6 million USD to plan to produce the electric Jeep Wagoneer in the near future, expected to launch in late 2025.
