The People's Court of Hai Duong province has just held a first-instance trial of defendant Vu Thi Thuy (born in 1959, residing in Ha Thanh commune, Tu Ky) for murder.

At about 6:30 p.m. on August 2, 2024, at Chay Road field, Tri Le village, Ha Thanh commune, Thuy used a battery connected to a homemade generator and a system of bare steel wires, strung with bamboo poles around her rice field to kill rats but did not put up warning signs.

At around 7:00 p.m. the same day, Ms. NTH (born in 1965, living in the same commune) went out to visit the field adjacent to Thuy's field and was electrocuted to death.

The court determined that the defendant committed murder with indirect intent, with many mitigating circumstances such as honestly confessing, turning himself in after committing the crime, compensating the victim's family for damages, the defendant being old, belonging to a near-poor household...

The jury sentenced Vu Thi Thuy to 3 years and 6 months in prison for murder.

The People's Procuracy of Hai Duong province requested local authorities to strengthen propaganda for people about safety regulations in using electricity; prohibit the use of electricity to set mouse traps.
