Initial investigation, authorities determined that Ms. T. and her husband had a 360 m2 rice field.2in Dong Cao field, Dong Linh village. Recently, because rats were destroying the rice, Mrs. T. and her husband made a rat trap using 220V electricity.

On July 22, Mrs. T.'s husband went to buy plastic pipes and steel wire to make traps. Mrs. T. and her husband cut the plastic pipes into stakes, planted them around the field, and then tied the steel wire to the stakes.

Then, Mrs. T. and her husband used 220V power from the farm about 300 meters away to connect to the trap system to kill rats.

At 6:30 p.m. on July 25, Ms. T. and her husband plugged in the rat trap. After that, Ms. T. went to the field to check for dead rats and kept watch so that people would not come near her family's field.

Mrs. T. went to the field for about 15 minutes when her husband called but there was no answer. Sensing something was wrong, Mrs. T.'s husband immediately disconnected the power source connected to the rat trap and went to the field to check. There, Mrs. T.'s husband discovered that Mrs. T. had fallen on the electric wire used to make the rat trap and had died.
