Authorities are investigating the cause of two deaths and one hospitalization after drinking milk.
On October 15, the authorities of Cai Be district and Tien Giang province are urgently investigating and clarifying the case of two deaths and one hospitalization in the same family due to suspected poisoning.
At 6:00 a.m. on October 14, Ms. Pham Thi P. (83 years old, residing in Hoa Hung commune, Cai Be district, Tien Giang province) woke up to find that her biological son, Mr. Pham Van Y. (45 years old), had died. However, the family thought that Mr. Y. died due to illness, so they held a funeral without reporting it to the police.
At 10 p.m. the same day, Ms. Pham Thi My C. (53 years old, biological daughter of Ms. P.) mixed 100 ml of milk for Ms. P. to drink. Immediately after drinking all the milk, Ms. P. showed signs of chest tightness, difficulty breathing, and vomiting. About 5 minutes later, Ms. P. died at home. Her family thought her death was due to illness, so they did not report it to the police.

Then, at around 4am on October 15, Mr. Pham Minh T. (55 years old, biological son of Mrs. P.) mixed 150 ml of milk to drink. After drinking 50 ml, he had a headache, dizziness, and vomiting, so his family took him to Trieu An - Loan Tram Hospital in Vinh Long province for emergency treatment. There, Mr. T. was diagnosed by the doctor with suspected milk poisoning, so he was transferred to Vinh Long General Hospital for further treatment.
Immediately after the incident, Cai Be District Police coordinated with relevant professional units to examine the scene and investigate the cause of the two deaths.
