Authorities in Bac Kan province are investigating the cause of the incident in which two children (who are siblings) were suspected of being poisoned by food, resulting in one death and the other requiring emergency care.
Initial information shows that at around 9:00 p.m. on October 13, 2023, N.D.Th. (born in 2015) showed signs of abdominal pain and vomited food and gastric juice, so his family took him to Bac Kan Provincial General Hospital for examination and treatment. Nguyen D.Tr. (born in 2016, Th.'s younger brother) showed no symptoms and stayed at home with his grandmother.
However, at around 11pm the same day, Tr. cried for his father but his grandmother did not detect any abnormalities. At 1:45am on October 14, 2023, her grandmother discovered that Tr.'s whole body was cold and stiff and the family confirmed that the child had died.
According to the Bac Kan City Medical Center, at around 10:25 p.m. on October 13, Th. was taken to the Provincial General Hospital by his father for examination and was transferred to the Department of Surgery, Bac Kan Provincial General Hospital, and had the necessary tests done. Through treatment and monitoring, by the evening of October 14, the patient's health had basically stabilized.
According to the epidemiological investigation of the health agency, on October 13, the two children went out for breakfast with their relatives, then went to school, came back for lunch with their family, went to the supermarket in the afternoon but did not eat anything, and in the evening went to dinner with their father at a relative's house. Apart from the two children showing signs of poisoning, all the people who ate with the two children showed no abnormal signs.
The cause of the incident is being investigated and clarified by the authorities.
