On the morning of June 17, the leader of the Military-Civilian Medical Center of Con Co Island District (Quang Tri Province) said that a patient died of suspected poisoning from eating an unknown species of crab.
Previously, at around 10 p.m. on June 16, patient Tran Chi H. (44 years old, residing in Quat Xa village, Cam Thanh commune, Cam Lo district) was given emergency treatment at the Center in an unconscious state. At around 11:20 p.m., the patient became seriously ill, with no blood pressure or pulse. Despite the dedicated efforts of doctors and nurses to provide emergency care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the patient's condition did not improve. At 11:30 p.m. the same day, the patient died. The cause was determined to be suspected seafood poisoning.
According to initial information, Mr. H. worked as a construction worker on Con Co Island. At around 5:30 p.m. on June 16, Mr. H. and some friends ate crab of an unknown species that they had prepared themselves and drank alcohol.
Currently, the authorities are carrying out procedures to bring Mr. H's body from Con Co island to the mainland.
