On the afternoon of July 3, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced the admission scores for grade 10 of 108 public high schools for the 2024-2025 school year, one week earlier than planned.
Of which, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School is the leading school in terms of benchmark score with 24.25 points. Next, 5 schools with high benchmark scores of 23 points or more are: Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School, Practicing High School - University of Education, Gia Dinh High School, Tran Phu High School, Nguyen Huu Huan High School. Compared to last year, the benchmark score of this group of schools decreased from 0.25 to 1.25 points.
About 10 schools have low admission scores from 10.5 to 12 points; most of them are schools located in suburban areas with small numbers of students.
In general, the benchmark scores in most schools decreased slightly from 0.25 to 1.25 points. On the contrary, there were also some schools with benchmark scores increasing from 0.25 to 1.75 points.
According to the data of candidates registering their wishes before the exam, Nguyen Huu Huan High School leads in the "competition" ratio with a ratio of 1/3.22. Although ranked 2nd in the city in terms of competition ratio (1/3), Ho Thi Bi High School's benchmark score is only 17.5 points. The city also has 26 schools with a competition ratio of less than 1, meaning the number of registered candidates is less than the target.
In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City has more than 98,000 candidates taking the entrance exam for public grade 10, of which the total enrollment quota for schools is more than 77,300. The admission score is the total score of 3 subjects: Literature, Math, Foreign Language and priority points (if any). This year, grade 9 students in Thanh An island commune (Can Gio district) do not have to take the entrance exam but are selected to study at local schools.
According to the plan, successful candidates will confirm their online application on the 10th grade admission portal (https://ts10.hcm.edu.vn) from July 4 to 12. Candidates who do not submit their application will have their names removed from the admission list by the school.
As in previous years, the city requires that high schools do not accept applications or process requests to change preferences or transfer schools.
A notable new point in public 10th grade enrollment in Ho Chi Minh City this year is that depending on the actual situation of application submission for each type of enrollment (specialized, integrated or regular), the City Department of Education and Training will decide to open an additional enrollment period.
This adjustment aims to resolve the situation where many schools cannot meet their enrollment quotas because many candidates are admitted but do not enroll (for many reasons such as studying abroad, enrolling in a school too far from home so they cannot attend, etc.).
Meanwhile, the demand for public 10th grade education of many students in the city is still very high.
Previously, on June 24, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced the benchmark scores for specialized and integrated 10th grade. This year's benchmark scores fluctuated significantly compared to last year.
Notably, some classes decreased by 4 points, while others increased by 5.25 points. Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted is still the leading school in terms of admission scores for specialized classes.
Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that students who cannot enter public grade 10 can study other types of education such as vocational training, private grade 10, and continuing education.
In addition to the 77,300 public high school grade 10 quotas, there are also about 50,000 quotas in private schools, vocational schools, and continuing education schools. These schools mainly consider junior high school transcripts.
During the recent 10th grade entrance exam for public schools in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi (student of Nguyen An Ninh Secondary School, District 12) had to lie in bed to take the exam because she had a broken spine from a previous accident.
However, after completing the first two subjects, Yen Nhi could not continue to take the final exam due to her health suddenly becoming weak and had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment and monitoring. Yen Nhi was an excellent student for many years, came from a poor family, and had the will to succeed.
This candidate was specially considered by the City Department of Education and Training to enter Nguyen Huu Cau High School (Hoc Mon district).
