On the afternoon of December 26 (November 26 of the lunar calendar), the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Chi Linh City held an incense offering ceremony to commemorate the 654th death anniversary of the great teacher and celebrity Chu Van An (1370 - 2024) at the temple of the teacher on Phuong Hoang mountain, Van An ward.

Comrade Le Ngoc Chau, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and a large number of officials, people and tourists from all over attended the ceremony.

The famous Chu Van An was born in 1292 in Quang Liet village, Thanh Dam district (now Thanh Liet, Thanh Tri, Hanoi). Since childhood, he was famous for being upright, maintaining his integrity, not seeking fame or fortune, having extensive knowledge, being upright and respected by everyone.

During the reign of King Tran Minh Tong, Chu Van An was invited to be the Rector of the Imperial Academy, to teach the princes and assist the king in helping the country. However, during the reign of King Tran Du Tong, the court was in chaos, the king and his officials were debauched and did not care about the affairs of the court. After many unsuccessful attempts to persuade him, Chu Van An submitted the "Seven-Execution Memorial", requesting the beheading of seven sycophants in the hope of maintaining peace in the court.

When his advice to the king failed, he asked to resign and live in seclusion at Phoenix Mountain. Here, he taught, wrote poems, wrote books, and found medicine to cure the people. In 1370, he died at Phoenix Mountain at the age of 79. The royal court mourned Chu Van An, gave him the posthumous name Van Trinh, the title Tieu An Khang Tiet Tien Sinh, conferred the title of Thuong Dang Than and ordered him to be worshiped at the Temple of Literature.

Along with National Hero Nguyen Trai, Great Poet Nguyen Du, President Ho Chi Minh, teacher Chu Van An is the fourth Vietnamese person to be honored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Chu Van An Temple, inaugurated in 2008, is a place that attracts many visitors and teaches the nation's tradition of studiousness and respect for teachers.
