Arouse interest in learning

Over 22 years of working at Binh Giang High School, Ms. Thuy has lived with the enthusiasm of youth, persistently studying, practicing, and researching to innovate effective teaching methods to spread the love of English to students. In 2009, Ms. Thuy worked and went to graduate school and received a Master's degree in English in 2012. Currently, Ms. Thuy is the Head of the English - Physical Education Group.

Ms. Thuy said that the initial difficulty in teaching English at school was that students did not have many opportunities to approach and use this foreign language in communication. Many students were still hesitant and lacked confidence. Parents also did not fully understand the importance of foreign languages. Teaching equipment was lacking, so the way teachers and students organized teaching was not as effective as expected... Therefore, it was not easy to inspire students to love learning English. But this difficulty was also the goal that Ms. Thuy wanted to pursue to overcome.

“I always believe that with English, children will have a better future and discover many things in this world that they cannot do without a foreign language,” said Ms. Thuy.

English is a very special subject, many students are afraid to learn. Therefore, Ms. Thuy has to constantly innovate and not hesitate to change her teaching methods. To improve the quality of students' learning, the first thing Ms. Thuy does is to create interest, desire to learn, and curiosity in students. In each lesson, students are actively involved and proactively communicate in a variety of interactive activities such as games, songs, quizzes, competitions, etc. This helps students accumulate vocabulary, become more confident; develop language skills for students, and create a gentle and interesting learning space.

“The teaching method that I find most effective and commonly used is project-based learning. This is a student-centered method that guides students to acquire knowledge and skills through embarking on a specific project to solve a problem. Students will go through a process of exploration and discovery to solve a challenging project that requires thinking. Instead of short-term memorization and summary memorization, project-based learning creates opportunities for students to deeply engage in core content, focusing on long-term knowledge retention,” said Ms. Thuy.

Pham Minh Ngoc, a 12th grade student at Binh Giang High School, is one of three students from the school who won the third prize in the provincial English competition for the 2023-2024 school year. Ngoc said that in each of Ms. Thuy's classes, the students gradually no longer feel bored or have to recite lessons. Instead of being shy, timid, and not daring to raise their hands to speak, many students have become more confident and bold, and from there their foreign language skills have improved a lot.

“To be able to study with teacher Thuy, for me that is luck. Not only was knowledge imparted by an experienced teacher, but more importantly, she spread the love for this subject to us,” Ngoc said.
