670 players enter the Hai Duong Newspaper Cup Chess Tournament for children and youth groups

On the morning of August 15, Hai Duong Newspaper and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism opened the 12th Hai Duong Newspaper Cup Chess Tournament for children and youth groups in 2024 at Hai Duong Sports Gymnasium.

Comrade Nguyen Hung Chuong, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Hai Duong Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee, delivered the opening speech, affirming that the tournament is the basis for discovering and selecting players with high professional quality to compete in higher tournaments. This is an annual tournament, however, the referee team needs to uphold the sense of responsibility, conduct the tournament fairly and objectively, ensuring the tournament takes place safely and in accordance with the regulations. At the same time, he acknowledged the companionship of Prudential Insurance in this year's tournament as well as in the past.

The 12th Hai Duong Newspaper Cup Chess Tournament for Youth and Children in 2024 has 670 players participating, the same number as the previous tournament. The players were selected from clubs, localities, and units with strong movements such as Blue Horse, Hai Duong City, Chi Linh City, Nam Sach, Tu Ky, Kim Thanh, etc.

To prepare for this year's tournament, the Organizing Committee has assigned tasks to 35 referees, fully prepared facilities and competition equipment at Hai Duong Sports Gymnasium. In the photo: Referees check names before each match

This year's tournament continues to have the participation of players from 6 years old and under, 7 years old, 8-9 years old, 10-11 years old, 12-13 years old and 14-15 years old, competing in the Swiss system. The youngest group in this year's tournament is 6-year-old players.

Tables with more than 30 players will play 9 games, tables with less than 30 players will play 7 games.

Clubs, localities and units send players with good professional quality to participate in the tournament.
