The number and ranking of Vietnamese scientists on the list of "100,000 influential scientists" this year has increased sharply.
The ranking was selected by a group of scientists led by Professor John PA Ioannidis and colleagues from Stanford University (USA) based on the Scopus database and published by Elsevier Publishing House.
According to the top 100,000 list, 64 individuals are working at Vietnamese universities. Of these, 47 are Vietnamese scientists. Compared to 2022, this list has increased by 12.
In the top 10,000, Vietnam has 7 people, an increase of 5 people compared to 2022, including Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, ranked 1,119), Associate Professor Dr. Tran Xuan Bach (Hanoi Medical University, ranked 3,240), Dr. Pham Thai Binh (University of Transport Technology, ranked 4,444), Dr. Hoang Nhat Duc (Duy Tan University, ranked 5,551), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc (Hanoi National University, ranked 5,657), Dr. Tran Nguyen Hai (Duy Tan University, ranked 6,669), and Associate Professor Dr. Le Hoang Son (Hanoi National University, ranked 6,982).
Of which, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Hoang Son and Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc (Hanoi National University) are in the top 5 for consecutive years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc is one of two Vietnamese scientists who have been ranked among the world's leading scientists for five consecutive years.
Many scientists have increased their rankings compared to last year. Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology) ranked 1,119 - 17,415 in 2022. Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Xuan Bach (Hanoi Medical University) ranked 3,240 - 12,132 in 2022. Dr. Tran Nguyen Hai (Duy Tan University) ranked 6,669 - 13,713 in 2022. Dr. Pham Thai Binh (University of Transport Technology) ranked 4,444 - 47,240 in 2022. Dr. Vuong Quan Hoang (Phenikaa University) ranked 31,057 - 61,452 in 2022. Dr. Vo Nguyen Dai Viet (Nguyen Tat Thanh University) ranked 35,261 - 93,438 in 2022. Dr. Chu Dinh Toi (International School, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) ranked 44,378 - 66,906 in 2022.
Dr. Tran Nguyen Hai, member of the Editorial Board for 12 ISI-standard international journals, is among the top scientists with a strong increase in ranking compared to 2022.
The list also has many new faces, such as Associate Professor Dr. Pham Van Viet (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, ranked 57,893), Associate Professor Dr. Bui Xuan Thanh (University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University, ranked 98,112).
Many foreign scientists working at Vietnamese universities, such as Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, VinUni University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, are also on the list.
Dr. Vuong Quan Hoang is also in the group of scientists whose rankings have increased significantly compared to the 2022 list.
The 100,000 Influential People Ranking is based on the most cited scientific papers. The list was first published in the journal PLoS Biology in August 2019. The ranking uses the Scopus database (published by Elsevier) from 1960 to October 2023.
The evaluation criteria are based on scientific impact indicators (total number of citations, Hirsch h-index; Schreiber hm-index adjusted for co-authorship, number of citations of articles published as sole author, main author and last author, and a composite index).
The list of scientists is divided into 22 main fields and 174 sub-fields (disciplines/specialties). Each person needs to have a minimum of 5 publications.
