Thu Ha bakery in Soc Trang fined 90 million VND for causing food poisoning

On March 12, a leader of the Department of Health of Soc Trang province confirmed that the chairman of the provincial People's Committee had signed a decision to administratively sanction the Thu Ha bread business (No. 2 Hai Ba Trung Street, Soc Trang City).

According to this decision, Thu Ha bakery committed administrative violations such as: importing, producing, processing, supplying, and selling food causing food poisoning...

Test results show that the cause of food poisoning is the microorganism Salmonellaspp. found in cold cuts.

For this violation, Thu Ha bakery was fined 90 million VND, had its business suspended for 4 months and was forced to bear all medical and treatment costs for 153 people with food poisoning, totaling over 384 million VND.

Previously, at the end of January 2024, after eating bread with liver pate, cold cuts, ham, pork floss, cucumber, butter... bought at Thu Ha bakery, 159 people showed signs of food poisoning with symptoms of stomach ache, diarrhea, vomiting, fever...

Of these, 153 people had to be hospitalized for treatment at hospitals in Soc Trang province and 6 people were examined and sent home.

Thu Ha bakery representative said they had received the province's administrative penalty decision.

"We comply with all decisions of the authorities and are actively coordinating with local authorities to pay for medical examination and treatment costs at 8:00 a.m. on March 13, at Hamlet 3, Ward 1.

The incident happened unexpectedly, we have been very sad these past few days. We will overcome the limitations, hope everyone shares and understands the family," the representative of the bakery shared.
