Car buyers must pass a test to be able to "take the reins" of the 1,500+ horsepower SUV from Xiaomi.
Recently, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun gave the green light for commercial production of the SU7 Ultra model, just one month after the prototype was launched.
The Ultra is the track-only version of the SU7 electric car, equipped with a series of details focused on optimizing aerodynamics, such as a rear spoiler, a diffuser, a splitter, side skirts, and special racing tires. This SU7 version is equipped with a new motor manufactured by Xiaomi, with a capacity of 1,527 horsepower.
These aerodynamic details, along with carbon fiber body panels, help the SU7 Ultra generate 2,145 kg of downforce, while weighing only 1,900 kg, which is remarkable for an electric car. For comparison, the SU7 Ultra is about 465 kg lighter than the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, and about 300 kg lighter than the Tesla Model S Plaid.
Powering the SU7 Ultra's three electric motors is a CATL Qilin 2.0 battery pack. Xiaomi says the SU7 Ultra needs just 1.97 seconds to reach 100 km/h, 5.97 seconds for 200 km/h, and 15 seconds for 300 km/h. Xiaomi aims to beat the Taycan Turbo GT's Nurburgring lap time of 7 minutes, 7.55 seconds.
With the same power as the million-dollar Bugatti Chiron, SU7 Ultra buyers must undergo tests to be able to unleash the full power of this model, according to Mr. Lei. The company has not released details about the content of the test.
Xiaomi will open orders for the Ultra version in the first quarter of 2025. There are no details on pricing yet, but it will be higher than the standard version (from $29,900). In the Chinese market, the Xiaomi SU7 competes with the Tesla Model 3.
