Trial of deputy director of Thanh Buoi Company and driver in accident that killed 5 people

Today (May 16), Dinh Quan District People's Court (Dong Nai) opened the first instance trial related to the particularly serious accident that killed 5 people on National Highway 20 in September 2023.

In which, defendant Le Duong (33 years old, Deputy Director of Thanh Buoi Company Limited) was brought to trial for the crime of "mobilizing unqualified people to drive vehicles to participate in road traffic" and defendant Hoang Van Tinh (38 years old, driver) for the crime of "violating regulations on participating in road traffic".

According to records, from early morning, hundreds of people came to the Dinh Quan District People's Court headquarters to follow the trial. Outside the yard, the Dinh Quan District People's Court prepared a screen to broadcast the trial live for people to follow.

At exactly 8 o'clock, the secretary began carrying out the necessary procedures for the trial to officially take place.

According to the indictment, Tinh was a contract driver for Thanh Buoi Company Limited (address: Le Hong Phong Street, Ward 4, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) whose director is Mr. Le Duc Thanh.

On September 30, 2023, Hoang Van Tinh drove a passenger bus with license plate 50F-004.83 carrying passengers from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat City (Lam Dong). At about 2:25 a.m., while traveling on National Highway 20 (Phu Vinh Commune, Dinh Quan District), due to not keeping a safe distance, Tinh's car crashed into the back of a truck with license plate 60C-345.13 traveling in the same direction ahead.

After the collision, Tinh swerved to the left across the opposite lane and crashed head-on into a 16-seat passenger van with license plate 86B-015.75 driven by Mr. NVC (34 years old, residing in Binh Thuan province) carrying 8 passengers. The strong impact killed 5 people and injured 4 others.

The investigation agency determined that Tinh had previously had his Class E driver's license revoked by Lam Dong Provincial Police from August 5, 2023 to November 5, 2023.

Duong, the Deputy Director of Thanh Buoi Company Limited (son of Mr. Le Duc Thanh), has the authority to sign transport orders in passenger transport activities. However, on September 30, 2023, he did not check Tinh's driver's license or measure his alcohol concentration according to regulations but still assigned Tinh to drive the above passenger car, causing an extremely serious traffic accident.

To date, Thanh Buoi Company Limited has compensated the victims' families nearly 2.7 billion VND and 800 million VND for the two owners of damaged vehicles.
