Cam Hung is a complex area with many factors affecting women's lives, so recently, the commune has actively implemented measures to create a safe environment for women.
Methodical implementation
Cam Hung Commune is located in the west of Cam Giang District, bordering 3 provinces. The commune has about 7,800 people, scattered residents, and National Highway 38 with relatively high traffic density runs through the area. People's income is not high, so life is still difficult, somewhat affecting awareness of social issues.
In recent years, many businesses have been established in the area, attracting many people from other localities to work and rent accommodation. These factors have caused potential security, order and traffic safety problems in Cam Hung, and even complicated incidents have occurred.
To create a safe environment for people, especially women, in April 2022, the Party Committee of Cam Hung commune issued a resolution on building a model of "Women with security and order assurance work" in the movement of All people protecting national security, becoming one of the communes in Cam Giang to soon deploy and establish this model.
Accordingly, Cam Hung chose to organize a pilot model at the Dong Xuyen Village Women's Union to gain experience. Although the model is in the village, the Commune People's Committee has established a steering committee, assigning key officials such as leaders of the People's Committee, the Women's Union, and the Commune Police to be the core of the steering committee to develop a plan and organize the implementation of the model. Thereby, attaching the responsibility of each person to each specific task.
“Immediately after its establishment, the model steering committee developed a plan, conventions, and specific action programs. In particular, the Commune Women's Union and the Commune Police signed a coordination program to implement activities to improve the effectiveness of the model. Immediately after its establishment, the model attracted nearly 120 female members of Dong Xuyen village to participate,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Chairwoman of the Cam Hung Commune Women's Union.
After being put into operation, the model steering committee has organized propaganda on the policies of the Party, the State and the locality on related issues. In particular, it emphasizes the content of instructing women on skills to prevent domestic violence, social evils, and traffic safety. At the same time, it has prepared documents for the village organizations to integrate into their activities. The commune police force regularly supports women and children to participate in traffic safety...
Help women stay safe
“At the end of 2023, when we reviewed the model’s activities, we were very excited because Dong Xuyen village had no complicated incidents related to security and order. After being instructed and having their knowledge improved, the members of the model also actively promoted it to their family members, so the results were even more evident,” Ms. Huong added.
From the effectiveness of the Dong Xuyen village model, in 2024, Cam Hung commune expanded it to all 6 villages in the commune. In addition, realizing that online fraud crimes are increasing, the Commune Women's Union has cooperated with the Commune Police to deploy an additional model on cyber safety for women.
The Commune Women's Union also established groups on social networks such as Zalo, Facebook, etc. to disseminate information widely and promptly to members. Regularly remind women to stay away from crimes and scams on the Internet, which are becoming increasingly complex.
Ms. Sung Thi May, born in 1997, in Meo Vac district (Ha Giang), a worker at Nam Sinh Company Ltd., lives in Dong Dong village, Cam Hung commune. From her boarding house to her company, Ms. May has to cross National Highway 38, which is very dangerous, especially during rush hour when there is a lot of traffic. At first, Ms. May was very scared. But then she participated in the model "Women with security and order assurance work", and was given specific instructions by the police officers. Ms. May has the skills to cross the road and safety measures.
Ms. May said: “When we were in Ha Giang, we often followed our instincts when participating in traffic, going wherever was convenient, sometimes carrying 2-3 people behind. Women in my hometown used to tie their hair up high, so sometimes they rode motorbikes without helmets because it was inconvenient. Now it is different, we have given up those habits to ensure safety for ourselves and everyone else.”
Up to now, according to Cam Hung commune, the model of “Women with security and order assurance work” in the movement of the whole people protecting the security of the Fatherland after being widely deployed to all villages has brought positive results. In the commune, there has been a significant reduction in cases of law violations, domestic violence, traffic accidents, especially there have been almost no complicated cases involving female victims.
