On the morning of November 27, speaking to reporters, Mr. Do Van Dien (the second son of Ms. Vu Thi Deu, whose house was burned down by her three daughters) said that his younger sister, Do Thi Diem (34 years old), the second child in the case of three daughters burning down their mother's house with gasoline, causing all four people to be severely burned, had died.
"My sister died yesterday afternoon, after nearly a month of treatment at the National Burn Institute. Because I had to stay at the hospital to take care of my mother, relatives at home took care of her funeral," said Mr. Dien.
Ms. Diem is the second daughter to die in the case of three daughters burning down their mother’s house. Previously, the eldest daughter, Do Thi Dinh, passed away on November 18.
According to Mr. Dien, Mrs. Deu's health is still very weak. "My mother is conscious but still has to undergo dialysis treatment and cannot undergo surgery yet," Mr. Dien said.
Meanwhile, the youngest daughter, who suffered the mildest burns, is still being treated in hospital.
Previously, on November 4, the leader of Hung Yen Provincial Police confirmed that the investigation agency had initiated a murder case that occurred in Thien Loc village, Trung Hoa commune, Yen My district. The decision to prosecute was made after 5 days of the investigation agency verifying the case of three daughters using gasoline to burn down their biological mother's house.
According to initial verification results, due to conflicts in property disputes and land inheritance rights, on the morning of October 30, three daughters went to the house of their biological mother, Ms. Vu Thi Deu (61 years old), argued and brought along a 10-liter can of gasoline.
After arguing outside the door, the three of them went inside with their mother. One of them poured gasoline on the living room floor and set it on fire.
The fire caused severe burns to Mrs. Deu and her three children and they were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. Property damage due to the fire was about 50 million VND.
