On March 24, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Olympic Committee, the Department of Physical Training and Sports (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), in coordination with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, and the Hanoi Moi Newspaper organized the program "Glory of Vietnamese Sports".
This is an event to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the Sports and Physical Training Industry's Traditional Day (March 27, 1946 - March 27, 2024) and the day Uncle Ho wrote the article "Physical Training and Health" calling on people to exercise.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung stated: During his lifetime, Uncle Ho once said: "To preserve democracy, build the country, and create a new life, everything requires good health to be successful. Every weak citizen means the whole country is weak, every healthy citizen means the whole country is healthy" and affirmed "A strong people means a prosperous country". Over the past 78 years, implementing his ideology, our Party and State have always paid attention to directing, investing in, and developing physical education and sports widely among the masses.
The entire Sports and Physical Training sector strives to adhere to the policy, closely coordinates with central and local ministries, departments, branches, sports federations and associations to successfully implement the goal of "Healthy to build and protect the Fatherland". The campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" continues to be comprehensively promoted, making an important contribution to improving the health, stature and physical strength of the people. High-performance sports have made remarkable progress, increasing their ranking in the region, continent and internationally...
In 2023, Vietnamese Sports participated in many major events such as: FIFA Women's World Cup, ASIAD 19, ASIAN Para Games 4, SEA Games 32, Paragames 12... and achieved excellent results in many sports.
The title of “National Outstanding Athlete and Coach” is an award given by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Olympic Committee, and the Department of Physical Training and Sports to athletes who compete and achieve excellent results and coaches whose athletes compete and achieve high results in 2023. This title is voted by sports journalists nationwide.
After 45 years of organization, this is also the first time that the election has added the category of "Outstanding Sports Team" to honor the athlete groups with excellent achievements in team events (from 3 athletes or more). Based on the voting results, at the "Glory of Vietnamese Sports" Program this time, there were 23 athletes, coaches and 4 outstanding sports teams (Vietnam Women's Football Team, Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team, Vietnam Women's Karate Team, Vietnam Women's Sepak Takraw Team 4-person) awarded Certificates of Merit by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Vietnam Olympic Committee.
In particular, 14 athletes and coaches with outstanding achievements in major international competitions last year were honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal from the President; 13 others were awarded Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister. These noble awards will be a great motivation for athletes and coaches to continue to strive to compete and achieve more achievements in international competitions in the coming time.
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee launched the Olympic Running Day for the health of all people; the 49th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Open Race - For Peace, 2024. The event attracted about 4,500 people, including nearly 1,000 professional athletes participating in the run.
As planned, the 49th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace 2024 at district, town and city levels will take place in March 2024. The final round at district, town and city levels will take place from April 2024 to September 20. The city-wide final round will take place on September 29 at the Ba Kieu Temple Flower Garden and around Hoan Kiem Lake.
