Vietnam won 6 medals and certificates of merit at the 2024 International Mathematical Olympiad

On July 20, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the official results of the Vietnam National Team participating in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2024 in the UK.

6 students won medals and certificates of merit

Accordingly, 6/6 students won medals and certificates of merit including: 2 silver medals, 3 bronze medals and 1 certificate of merit.

Specifically, the two students who won silver medals were: Tran Duy, grade 12, High School for Gifted Students - Hanoi National University of Education; Tran Minh Hoang, grade 11, Ha Tinh High School for Gifted Students, Ha Tinh province.

The three students who won bronze medals were: Pham Tran Minh Duc, grade 12, Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong City; Nguyen Dang Dung, grade 11, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences (University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi); Nguyen Van Hoang, grade 12, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, Bac Ninh Province.

Student Ta Duc Anh, grade 12, High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi National University of Education received a certificate of merit.

The 65th International Mathematical Olympiad will be held from July 11 to 22, 2024 in the United Kingdom, with a total of 609 contestants from 109 countries and territories. The contestants will take part in 2 official exam days, with a duration of 4.5 hours/day.

According to the regulations, the Organizing Committee will officially award prizes to 50% of the participating candidates. In addition, certificates of merit will be awarded to students who achieve the maximum score on 1 problem. This year's exam has a challenging structure for participating students when there are 2 combination problems, 1 at an average level and 1 at a difficult level.

Despite certain difficulties in both the exam questions and the health of some candidates, the Vietnamese student delegation achieved good results and was highly appreciated in the region. This result continues to affirm the right direction in the work of discovering, selecting, nurturing and training excellent students of the Ministry of Education and Training.

The closing ceremony and award ceremony of the 2024 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) will be held on July 21 in the UK.
