Death sentence for transporting more than 2.9 kg of drugs

According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Quang Tri province, on November 14, 2022, Ho A Xuan (23 years old, residing in Thanh 1 village, Thanh commune, Huong Hoa district) was home alone when Ho Van Hai (living in the same village) came to visit and said that a Laotian needed to hire someone to transport drugs from Laos to Vietnam, so he agreed to go transport. Hai told Xuan to go to the Se Pon riverbank in Laos to wait for someone to come deliver the drugs in the evening, then Hai left.

At about 6:00 p.m. on November 14, 2022, Xuan walked alone to the bank of the Se Pon River (through Thanh 1 village, Thanh commune). Seeing that the water was shallow, he waded across the river and then went to a trail near the riverbank in Laos to wait for someone to deliver the drugs. At about 10:00 p.m. the same day, Xuan met a strange man driving a car with a Lao license plate. This man gave Xuan a black package and told him to take it home. When someone came to receive the goods, Xuan would return here and be paid 3 million VND. This man also gave Xuan a blue nylon bag containing 10 pink pills of drugs for use.

After receiving the drugs, Xuan followed the same route back home. At around 11:25 p.m. on November 14, 2022, after using the drugs, Xuan took the black nylon package containing the drugs and hid it in a lemongrass bush in the vacant lot in front of his house, waiting for someone to come and claim it, but was arrested by the authorities. Through examination, the pink and blue tablets with a total weight of more than 2.9 kg were Methamphetamine.

During the investigation as well as at the first instance trial, the defendant Ho A Xuan confessed honestly, repented, and asked for leniency from the law. After deliberation, considering the nature and level of the particularly serious violations of the case, the Trial Panel sentenced Xuan to death.

Previously, on June 16, 2023, at the Tan Kim Hamlet Community Cultural House, Lao Bao Town (Huong Hoa District), the People's Court of Quang Tri Province opened a mobile first-instance trial, sentencing Ho Lang (23 years old, residing in Tan Thanh Commune, Huong Hoa District) to death for the crime of "Illegal transportation of narcotics".
