The 6th university in Vietnam meets international accreditation standards of HCERES

On the afternoon of December 1, in Hanoi, Hanoi University of Science and Technology was awarded the Certificate of International Accreditation of Training Institutions according to HCERES standards by the French High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES). The accreditation results will be valid for 5 years from 2023 to 2028.

Thus, Hanoi University of Science and Technology is the 6th university in Vietnam to be recognized as meeting HCERES standards and the 10th university to be recognized as meeting foreign educational standards.

Attending the certificate awarding ceremony were Minister of Transformation and Public Service, French Republic Stanislas Guerini; representative of the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education in France (HCERES); Professor - Academician Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; the board of directors and all staff, lecturers and students of the school.

HCERES is an official member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), using the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance (ESG) in the European Higher Education System (EHEA). In addition to French training and research institutions, HCERES carries out international evaluation and accreditation of foreign universities, French educational institutions abroad, and international joint research units.

At the certification ceremony, Professor Jean-Marc Lavest, Principal of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, shared: Receiving this accreditation certificate is not only a great honor for the school, but also an important milestone, affirming the school's commitment to developing the quality of training and research in accordance with international standards as well as efforts to become a prestigious university in the ecosystem of schools that are highly competitive in enrollment, training and research.

Currently, the school is in the process of modernizing the management system, restructuring research, expanding the cooperation network, adjusting and improving the quality of training programs to meet and anticipate the trends of the labor market along with the development of the Vietnamese economy. It can be said that the progress and ability to participate in the innovation and creativity process of Vietnam must be concretized by high-level training programs, at the master's and doctoral levels, to train scientists who are both capable of implementation and capable of management and strategy building.

Sharing about the accreditation process, Associate Professor - Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Rector of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said: In November 2022, the HCERES working group visited Hanoi University of Science and Technology to conduct a preliminary survey and concluded that the school was qualified for accreditation, and at the same time, guided the school to self-assess according to the HCERES accreditation standards and procedures. By March 2023, Hanoi University of Science and Technology had completed and submitted the self-assessment report according to HCERES's plan.

In May 2023, the HCERES evaluation team conducted a quality assessment at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The team worked and independently interviewed the University Council, the Internal Council, the Science and Training Council, the Board of Directors, representatives of departments, faculties, representatives of lecturers, researchers, students, alumni, representatives of domestic and international partners of the school and representatives of employers to clarify the school's governance effectiveness, training and research quality, contributions and community influence, development potential of students and alumni, etc.

In addition, the delegation of experts also directly visited the school's research and training facilities.

On October 26, 2023, Hanoi University of Science and Technology received official information that the school met international accreditation standards for training facilities according to the HCERES standards. All criteria were highly appreciated by the HCERES Accreditation Council; at the same time, the Council also proposed strategic development directions in the coming time so that the school can soon achieve its set goals.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology is a public university established under the Intergovernmental Agreement between Vietnam and France with the goal of training high-quality human resources in the field of science and technology. The school is affiliated with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and receives support from the Alliance of more than 30 prestigious French universities and research organizations in training and research.

Before Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam had 5 schools that met HCERES accreditation standards, including 4 schools that met standards in the 2017-2022 period: University of Science and Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), University of Science and Technology (Da Nang University), Hanoi University of Science and Technology and University of Construction; 1 school that met standards in the 2018-2023 period is Ton Duc Thang University.
