The increase proposed by the National Wage Council is 6%, equivalent to an increase of VND200,000 - VND280,000.

Specifically, the salary in region 1 increased to 4.96 million VND; region 2 is 4.41 million; region 3 is 3.86 million and region 4 is 3.45 million VND. Current salaries in the regions are fluctuating between 3.25-4.68 million VND.

The hourly minimum wage will also increase by 6% from mid-2024. Specifically, region 1 will increase to VND23,800; region 2 to VND21,200; region 3 to VND18,600; and region 4 to VND16,600.

The increase was finalized by the National Wage Council at its second meeting on December 20. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor proposed two increases of 6.48% or 7.3%, effective July 1, 2024, at the same time as the state-sector wage reform. The increase is based on an improving economy and a rebound in business orders.

The representative of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) proposed an increase of 4.5-5%, because it must take into account the health of businesses. When new orders return, keeping jobs for workers is more important.

After negotiations, 16/16 Council members voted unanimously to propose the Government adjust the minimum wage by 6%, increasing by 200,000-280,000 VND depending on the region.

Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Le Van Thanh, Chairman of the National Wage Council, assessed that 6% is a harmonious increase, sharing the difficulties of both workers and business owners.

The council proposed the increase from July 1, in line with the Party's policy on the timing of implementing salary reform in the state sector, ensuring time for businesses to prepare plans and resources for implementation.
