Artistic photography exhibition “Moments of Time” by 109-year-old photographer Van Quang Duc in Kinh Mon

On August 19, at the hall of the People's Committee of An Luu Ward (Kinh Mon, Hai Duong), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association, and the People's Committee of Kinh Mon town jointly organized an art photography exhibition and launched the book "Moments of Time" by 109-year-old photographer Van Quang Duc.

The photo exhibition “Moments of Time” introduces to the public 109 typical photo works, corresponding to the artist’s age of 109. The works are divided into 5 themes: Imprints of a time of bombs and bullets; Stories from the rivers; Kinh Mon; space and time; Golden season on the fields.

Each work is imbued with historical value, rich in artistry with poetic and evocative names. These are: “The Way Home of Rice”, “The Plowing Path”, “Afternoon on Kinh Thay River”, “Getting Sunshine”, “Old Bamboo Leaves Roots for Young Bamboo”… Many of artist Van Quang Duc’s photos have participated in many international exhibitions in Romania, Hungary, the German Democratic Republic, and the Soviet Union; winning many domestic and international awards.

By using the method of recording reality in the art of photography and the artist's love, the photos of photographer Van Quang Duc praise the beauty of the people and the land of Dong in labor, construction and fighting to protect the Fatherland. The works he has today demonstrate the responsibility of a citizen, an artist before the historical changes of the nation and the times. His whole life is devoted to photography, artist Van Quang Duc always works seriously, wholeheartedly for art, leaving behind thousands of other valuable photos. Hai Duong people in general, Hai Duong photography community in particular are proud to have a long-lived photographer with "Moments of time".

At the event, the Organizing Committee launched the artist's photo book "Moments of Time". The 106-page book introduces 125 typical photos taken by photographer Van Quang Duc, published with funding from the 2024 Culture, Sports and Tourism Career Fund.

The photo exhibition and book launch of artist Van Quang Duc is a major cultural, literary and artistic event of the province, celebrating the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2024) and National Day September 2. The exhibition takes place over 2 days, from August 19-20.

Photographer Van Quang Duc was born in 1915 in Hanoi. His hometown is Vinh Tru village, Dong Ly commune, now Vinh Tru town, Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam province. At the age of 18, he studied photography, then joined the resistance war against the French. When peace was restored, he moved his family to Kinh Mon town (now An Luu ward, Kinh Mon) to live and continued working as a photographer. Although he had to work as a photographer to make a living, he still pursued his passion for artistic creation.

Photographer Van Quang Duc is one of the 71 founding members of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, a member of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), one of the first members to establish and have many works contributing to the Hai Hung Literature and Arts Magazine (during the period when Hai Duong and Hung Yen provinces merged). Currently, photographer Van Quang Duc is active in the Photography Department, Hai Duong Literature and Arts Association and the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists in Hai Duong.
