At about 8:30 a.m. on March 27, 10 Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters, 6 Yak-130 training fighter jets, and 7 Su-30MK2 fighters took off from Bien Hoa airport, Dong Nai, into the sky of Ho Chi Minh City. Each group flew about 3-5 minutes apart, with helicopters in formation of 3-4-3, fighters in each group of 3-4, the first group was 1-2 km away from the next group. This was the first time the squadrons conducted training flights in the city center after nearly a month of training in the southern region.

A formation of 4 Su-30MK2s flew side by side, forming in the sky. To master coordination and position, pilots flew in formations of 3-4 aircraft, taking off from Bien Hoa airport through the airspace of Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc provinces, then practiced separating from the group, circling in the sky, and flying low over the simulated grandstand area.
A formation of 3 Su-30MK2s flew side by side, then separated in the sky near the Bitexco building - where the national flag is hung. This building has a helipad on the 52nd floor.

Two helicopter squadrons fly over Landmark 81 building. This is the tallest building in Vietnam, about 5 km from the April 30 parade site.
