Mourning the uprooted trees

On the morning of September 8, after storm No. 3 made landfall, I walked around Hai Duong City and saw a chaotic scene on the streets. Many trees were uprooted and fell.

A mahogany tree larger than an adult's hug on Ton Duc Thang Street (Hai Duong City) was uprooted.

Not only in Hai Duong city, along national highways, provincial roads, district roads, inter-commune roads, residential areas, there are also such scenes. There were so many fallen trees that on the afternoon of September 7, Hai Duong province had to temporarily close some traffic routes. Many forces had to clean up overnight, temporarily push and hoist trees to the side of the road to clear the route.

Tu Ky district mobilized forces to quickly clear traffic routes blocked by fallen trees.

Many of the fallen trees are ancient trees, perennial trees. There are trees associated with street corners, people, familiar images, memories of many generations. I wonder how many couples have stood and talked under the trees? Many trees provide shade to protect people during the hot summer, blocking the scorching sun. There are also newly planted trees, still small and immature...

Trees "dead" due to big storms also brought down power lines, telecommunication cables, and fallen electric poles, causing power outages and communication disruptions.

In urban development and green development in general, the role of trees is very important. Trees help balance the climate, providing oxygen for humans and animals. Looking at the national and global scale, trees also help combat climate change.

We always care about the urban green ratio and tree planting. In Hai Duong, there are beautiful rows of trees and tree-lined streets. Rows of trees that attract tourists like in Gia Loc and Thanh Mien. Photos of trees here attract thousands of likes on social networks. Or rows of trees blooming all year round in Hai Duong City, each season has its own flowers. That is why we are proud and are working hard to build a "city of four seasons of flowers".

But how have we treated trees? We plant and care for them. But we are still negligent. Looking at the rows of trees with heavy canopies falling down, we cannot help but wonder. Big storms, very big storms are objective, beyond human calculation. But if only we regularly prune, not only before the storm. We care not only before the storms because the upcoming storms will not be able to do it on a large scale. Branches that are damaged by worms, old, and withered need to be pruned regularly. Especially old trees. We prune regularly when the storm comes to limit damage...

Trees are not just inanimate objects. They have souls. The souls of trees are breathed into them by humans. It is a real pain when an old tree falls. Old trees have souls, even sacredness according to folk beliefs. Therefore, taking care of trees requires love, just like taking care of people. Taking care of trees with love and devotion will make the trees stick with people and stay with them longer. Trees give people oxygen to breathe, landscapes and many other spiritual values.
