You can consider replacing the milk in your daily tea and coffee. Compared to familiar animal milk, plant-based products have some outstanding advantages.

Most people around the world drink tea or coffee every day. Depending on their preferences, many people add milk to their drinks to enhance the delicious flavor.

Recently, some scientists have suggested that people switch from animal milk to plant-based alternatives. They claim that this swap will significantly improve your health.

In celebration of Plant-Based Milk Day on August 22, nutritionist Melissa Snover sheds light on the impact of that simple change.

Many people like to add milk to their daily drinks.

The American nutritionist emphasizes how milk alternatives can help with weight control: "Plant milks such as almond, oat and soy are often lower in calories and saturated fat than cow's milk. Therefore, this is a good choice for those who want to reduce their animal food intake and maintain a healthy weight."

“Plus, many plant milks are fortified with vitamins and minerals like calcium and vitamin D, which can provide a host of benefits including maintaining bone health and boosting immunity. Another advantage is that plant milks are often easier to digest, which is especially good for people with sensitive stomachs or lactose intolerance,” says Snover.

Similarly, recent research from the University of Toronto (Canada) demonstrated the health benefits of switching from animal milk to plant milk, including reduced blood pressure and markers of inflammation. In particular, soy milk was associated with lower cholesterol levels.

Despite their many benefits, plant milks have been labeled as “ultra-processed foods” due to the added sugar content in some varieties.

Nutritionist Snover offers his take on the plant milk debate: “It’s important to note that not all plant milks are created equal. Some may contain added sugars or lack the protein content found in cow’s milk. So you have to check the label and choose the milk that suits your needs.”
