Murdered drinking buddy, hid body for 20,000 VND

On July 4, the People's Court of Kon Tum province brought defendant Mai Tan Thuong (60 years old, residing in Dien Binh commune, Dak To district) to the first instance trial and sentenced him to life in prison for "murder".

Defendant Thuong used a raincoat to wrap the victim's body and then left it in a dry ditch behind the house.

According to the indictment of the Kon Tum Provincial People's Procuracy, on the evening of January 23, Mr. Nguyen Van Dai (50 years old) went to Mr. Thuong's house to hang out and drink alcohol. The two were neighbors. During the drinking party, Mr. Thuong demanded a debt of 20,000 VND from Mr. Dai, causing a fierce conflict between the two sides.

After that, Mr. Thuong used scissors and a hammer to attack Mr. Dai, causing him to bleed profusely and then lie still. After attacking Mr. Dai, Mr. Thuong went to sleep.

On the morning of January 24, when he woke up and discovered that Mr. Dai had died, this man dragged the body to the dry ditch behind the house, then used a raincoat to roll it up and covered it with dry leaves to hide the body.

After being arrested, Mr. Thuong denied the crime and pretended to be unable to speak or understand anything, then fainted. However, when the police presented the evidence, Mr. Mai Tan Thuong confessed.

It is known that defendant Thuong has two previous convictions for "intentionally causing injury" and "inciting others to commit suicide".
